IdentificationofRemediation OptionsforMercury Contamination intheEnglishandWabigoon RiversSystemand DevelopmentofaLong-Term Monitoring Plan

The Ontario Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) will be posting a procurement opportunity on the Ontario Tenders Portal in Fall 2026 seeking a qualified vendor to support the identification of remediation options for historical mercury contamination in the English and Wabigoon Rivers system and to develop a long-term monitoring plan.

The successful vendor will review existing studies, identify data gaps, develop technically feasible remediation options, and conduct or oversee additional field work, as necessary. The work will also include engagement with First Nations communities and other key stakeholders and the development of a long-term monitoring plan to track mercury, methylmercury, and other key indicators in water, fish, and sediment.

The project area extends approximately 260 kilometres from Dryden, Ontario, to the Ontario–Manitoba border.

Engineering firms with expertise in sediment remediation, mercury contamination assessment, aquatic ecosystems, Indigenous engagement, and long-term environmental monitoring are encouraged to watch for the posting on the Ontario Tenders Portal in Fall 2026
