Thank you to our outgoing board members

By: Andrew Macklin

On behalf of the entire Canadian Brownfields Network, we want to thank three individuals who have reached their term limits after six years of incredible contributions to our Board of Directors.

Christopher De Sousa just completed a two-year term as the President of CBN. Chris’ leadership helped guide the Board through the COVID-19 pandemic, helping to facilitate new ideas for keeping the organization’s positive momentum going despite the challenges of the pandemic. His term saw the successful expansion of the membership, a significant update to the five-year strategic plan, and the hiring of a new administrative team. He was also the 2018 recipient of the Brownfielder of the Year award.

Berend Velderman finished his six-year term by continuing his dedication to the successful operation of the CBN Communications Committee. He worked tirelessly over the last several years to ensure that members of the CBN community had up-to-date information on the comings and goings of the Canadian brownfields industry, as well as the ongoing work of the committees and directors at CBN.

Grant Walsom is the past-past President of the Canadian Brownfields Network. He led CBN through significant growth of its industry footprint through the expansion of the Brownie Awards and the growth of the annual conference. Like his predecessor, Eric Pringle, Grant continues to provide positive contributions to the Board, sharing his experience and expertise to help guide CBN to a more prosperous future. He was also the recipient of the 2015 Brownfielder of the Year award.

On behalf of the entire Canadian brownfields community, thank you Christopher, Berend and Grant for all you have done, and continue to do, for the betterment of our industry.
