CBN’s Development Committee (DC) is a new committee responsible for raising the profile of developing brownfields as a first market choice for the real estate industry (overcoming barriers and unlocking opportunities) in Canada. The DC has had several engaging meetings since the last newsletter.

We continue to search for additional members to help bring different perspectives to the Committee’s work and are pleased to announce that Judy Lam from the City of Hamilton has joined the DC.  Judy adds a municipal perspective and brings a wealth of public and private sector experience and knowledge in lending and economic development.

The DC also discussed developing a training series on Tax Increment Financing (TIF) for government and market players, including those from technical, financial, and development sectors.  The training would be in webinar format and launched in early fall 2021.  The DC is also interested in preparing case studies of successful brownfield P3 Public-Private Partnership projects.  We would appreciate feedback from members on these initiatives and any other topics that will help advance CBN’s brownfields-first mission.
