CBN's 2018 Conference, the National Brownfield Summit:  Charting the Future, was Another Success!

If you missed the 2018 Conference, you missed a lot. The Summit will featured:

• Our popular Cross-country Check-up: a session on recent regulatory changes and an opportunity to learn about new initiatives from our panel of regulators
• Legal Update: case law shapes our practice as brownfielders. This session will feature presentations on the most recent court cases affecting brownfields
• Emerging Technology: focused presentations on the technological trends that will affect your brownfield practice today and in the future
• The Brownfield Industry in Canada:  the State of the Union: the cornerstone of the Summit. We revisited the 2003 National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy (NRTEE) report and found out what has worked, what still needs to be done, and what challenges are emerging. All participants then reconvened for a discussion and determination of the brownfield agenda for the next few years.  You can read summaries of the sessions here.

A key part of the "State of the Union" session was a presentation by the Ryerson University Planning Studio Group (Kaveen Fernando, Dan Le, Isabel Lima, Yang Lin and David Sturgeon) on brownfield regulation across the country.  The Group provided useful commentary comparing the provinces and ranking them.  They were followed by Reanne Ridsdale, who presented highlights of the CBN/Ryerson University survey on the progress made since the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy's 2003 report.  The Daily Commercial News provided an excellent summary in a recent article which you can read here.
