CBN Revisiting NRTEE Report 15 Years Later
We Need Your Opinion/Experiences
CBN has launched a survey to evaluate Canada's progress on brownfield redevelopment. The survey will look at the recommendations from the National Round Table on the Environment and the Economy's (NRTEE) 2003 report to see how far those recommendations have
gone in promoting brownfields as an economically viable alternative to greenfield development, identify remaining challenges and highlight new barriers that may have arisen.
The survey consists of six parts:
- Industry demographics, so we can analyse responses by industry sector
- Participants' strategic focus on brownfields
- Participants' motivations for working in the brownfield space
- Barriers, both old and new, to brownfield redevelopment
- Evaluation of the NRTEE report's original 13 recommendations
- Review of the report's suggested policy toolkit
We are undertaking this survey, which will take between 30 and 45 minutes to complete, in conjunction with Ryerson University. Participation in the survey is voluntary and individual responses are confidential. While the survey researcher, Reanne Ridsdale, will ask for contact details, this information will not be shared with CBN or anyone else; we will only see anonymized results. The survey is jointly funded by CBN and Mitacs, an organization aimed at connecting business, academic and the world through research, and all survey questions have been approved by Ryerson's Research Ethics Board.
We will present the aggregate survey results, along with an overview of governmental brownfields programs, at our 2018 Conference (June 13 in Toronto), and they will form the basis for discussion of future directions for CBN. Specifically, they will enable us to identify what we need to be doing to deliver on our mandate to make brownfields the preferred redevelopment alternative.
Familiarity the NRTEE report is not essential to respond to the survey but, for those interested, a copy of the report can be downloaded here.
The survey is available at https://survey.ryerson.ca:443/s?s=6603. If you have questions or would like further information, please contact Reanne Ridsdale, survey researcher, at 416-979-5000 ext. 6773 or by email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
On behalf of CBN, thank you for participating in this important initiative.
